CUSD Open Enrollment

  • Criteria

    Posted by:

A.R.S. § 15-816.01 requires public school governing boards to adopt a model format that their district may use for parents to understand: 1) their enrollment options as described in A.R.S. § 15-816.01; 2) Enrollment capacity at each school; and 3) The ability to choose any school within the school district of residence or any other school district in the state.

Each school district develops its own open enrollment criteria that comply with state and federal law. That includes criteria to evaluate open enrollment eligibility and priority.

Q & A

  • What is open enrollment and how is it different than regular enrollment?

    Posted by:

Regular enrollment is attending the local school you are assigned to based on your home address. This is also referred to as attending your default school or home school. Schools must ensure that there is enough classroom space available for these students.

Open enrollment allows parents to apply for admission to any public school in the state as long as there is classroom space available.

  • What types of open enrollment are there?

    Posted by:

Open enrollment allows students who live:

    • Within the Coolidge Unified School District (CUSD) to go to a different CUSD school outside of their home attendance boundaries.
    • Outside the CUSD school district to go to a school in the district.

Parents choose to open enroll their child in another school or school district for many reasons, such as unique program offerings, teaching philosophy, extracurricular activities, or proximity to a parent’s workplace. Regardless of the reason, open enrollment is an option for parents if there is space.

  • What if there isn't enough space?

    Posted by:

If you are denied enrollment because there is not enough space, you will be placed on a waiting list. As space becomes available, the school district will select students based on the school/program chosen and their place on the waiting list.
