What is Social & Emotional Learning?
-
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions (casel.org)
SEL will be imperative to re-engaging students, support staff/parents, rebuilding relationships, and creating a new foundation for academic learning. The new educational model may have a profound impact on a student's academic, social, and emotional outcomes. While each one of us faced a disruption in our "normal" routine during the pandemic, we need to be aware of the varying ways students and staff have experienced those disruptions over the past year.
Schools are considered one of the safest places - here at CUSD, we are determined to keep our District a safe haven for our faculty and students.
About

Generating a Learning Environment that Promotes Social & Emotional Development
At the start of the school year, Coolidge Unified School District (CUSD) will ensure that each student has at least one adult at school who can check in regularly with them and to whom they can reach out to. We will ask the students how we as a District can best support them and utilize student leadership teams to further discuss concerns, challenges, and needs based on student perspectives.
